On Seeing the Choke Trailer

June 14th, 2008

I just saw the trailer for Choke, based on the novel written by Chuck Palahniuk, who is so favored by young adults everywhere for his edgy, edgy writing, and also Fight Club.

I am a little disturbed that the movie comes off as a (romantic??) comedy, where sex addiction and a mother’s degenerating mind is something to find humor in.  If I remember right, the original feeling that reading Choke gave me was (much like the running themes in Palahniuk’s other novels) that humans are messed up and they know it, but all they can do is hit rock bottom before finding relief.  I thought the Fight Club movie did a pretty good job executing this feeling while still incorporating the humor.  Well, whatever will make money, right?

I Love Paula Deen

I love Paula Deen.  Just watching her is like eating a big bowl of some comfort food, or coming home on a rainy day and changing your clothes and drinking something warm.  As a poor college grad and a semi-raw foodist, it is in my best interest not to venture to make any of her recipes–which could very well make a bull elephant feel sluggish–but I’ll be damned if you should ever try to pry me away from my Paula.
