I have had many past experiences with the racial jokes/remark in my presence thing. It makes me wonder what people would say if I wasn't in the room. Either that or when I confront someone about something they said which was obviously horrid and racist they use the fact that I'm of mixed race heritage as a way of skirting around the consequences such as "well you're not even fully "this race" so why do you care?". So if I was fully 'that race' it would hurt more? Or I would feel more disgusted or angered by it? Okay.

Sophi: Yea I have explained to him that what he was doing was wrong and could hurt peoples feelings and make others mad, I've had to do it before when I picked him up from school too and commented on God'Fro AKA some guy who just moved here from LA so happens to have ultimate 'Fro, anywho, he said how much he doesn't like them cause when his dad was in jail a black guy in jail tried to stab him. I had a much harder time with this situation than the most recent, I'm not calling cause his parents are ignorant, I'm calling because of the constant type of neglect he's getting, he's become so spoiled to the point of having incredibly violent tantrums, he pretends to kill people he knows, and not in a semi-playful way, like totally imagining himself covered in someones guts way (not exaggerating), he's got major problems that are just to dificult to explain without someone actually seeing him, the school noticed this and are trying to convince the mom to get counseling for the kid and she's refusing to.

Roy: Nah, I just sat on the floor and crossed my legs and watched the knee dislocate, But if I ever did see the Dragon Ball Movie I would have thrown myself down a flight of stairs, preferably the empire state building's so I can completely forget about it. God, just thinking about that thing makes me want to puke kitten's crying cause they're on fire from all the shame/horror/agony of that "film"

I think it can be hard to maintain patience with any child, especially one who sounds so difficult. I agree with Sophie though, an explanation is really what he needs. It's obvious the mom won't be doing it, so hopefully he respects you enough to listen.

What happened to the leg? Did you throw yourself down a flight of stairs after watching the Dragon Ball movie?

I perhaps might not have taken as drastic of an approach as you did seeing as it really isn't the child's fault but the parent's for the type of environment he was raised. I do however find it deeply disturbing about the mother's lack of surprise and care towards some obvious signs of beginning bigotry within the child. It's almost as if she's fostering the ignorance.

Did you at any time explain to the child what he was saying was incredibly offensive and wrong? What was his response?

On a side note, how is the leg? I meant to ask you earlier today but never got the chance.

Ugh! Stupid people. I simply don't understand the point of going to a foreign country (especially when many people would kill for the opportunity) if one isn't going to try and immerse themselves within (all) aspects of the culture when there. Didn't their parents ever tell them to try new things? What's the point of going on an adventure to a new country if one isn't going to be adventurous? I can understand the squemishness at certain new foods or the fear of possible health reprecussions, but one simply need use their best judgement and that's it. The best that could happen is you find a new foreign food you love, the worst a slight chance at food poisoning, nothing deadly!

Totally agree about the Western food thing. Although I don't think it'd be able to live without cheese well, certain cheeses I always find myself giggling with the imagery of Wallace and Gromit's "cheese of the month club" skits when I eat cheese and any form of cracker lol.
I've never really cared much for red meat. Yes, on a very rare occasion I might crave a burger or steak, but I just can't stomach Beef with the same consistency that many other Westerners do. Don't even get me started on Lamb ::shudders::. I can understand eating things like that routinely out of necessity, but in this day and age when we have so many different foods readily available to us, why stick to ones that have been linked to health issues? Furthermore, why not try other foods to expand ones options? I've always been more a seafood, grain, vegetable kind of girl myself. But that could come from my backround too. I suppose it's all about acquired tastes.

Seriously. I feel quite saddened by the recent decline in tourism in Africa. There has recently been an increase in lion killings by African farmers who claim to be 'protecting' their livestock. They use this very deadly pestacide and by sprinkling it over the corpses of freshly killed cattle, kill the lions shortly after consuming it. Since most of (west) Africa's income is from foreigners coming for safari tours the lack of lions has increased this business. Not only is it bad for the economy, how about the entire fucking eco-system?

Unfortunately due to the publicity surrounding the harsh levels of crime in Johannesburg South Africa (which happens to be the rape and murder capital of the world) tourism in Africa is down regardless.
